Q: What are the requirements for entering the Home?
A:
Admission to the Home is open to sisters who have been a member of the Order in Illinois or another state for at least three years. Preference will be given to Illinois members of the Order. A recent Amendment to Grand Chapter Bylaws will allow admission of female family members of members of the Order of the Eastern Star. Procedures for this new Bylaw are currently being developed.
Q: Who operates the Eastern Star Home at Macon and how is it supported?
A:
The Eastern Star Home at Macon is owned and operated by the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois. The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world which opens its membership to both men and women. Illinois members of the Order support the operation of the Home through an annual Home Fee paid by each member, as well as by donations to the Eastern Star Home Fund and the Endowment Trust Fund.
Q: Does the Eastern Star Home accept Medicaid?
A:
Residents may be admitted on a "life care" basis, in which the residents resources are used to support care for the rest of the sister's life, or on a "private pay" basis, in which services are provided on a fee for service basis. The Eastern Star Home does not accept Medicaid reimbursement.
Q: How is the Home governed?
A:
A 15-member Board of Governors, elected by the Illinois members of the Order, meet at least monthly to oversee the operation of the Home. The Board of Governors appoints an Administrator for the Home, who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility.
Q: Must the Home meet the same regulations required of all nursing homes by state and federal authorities?
A:
The Eastern Star Home at Macon is regularly inspected and must meet all applicable state and federal regulations.
